One of the most fascinating aspects of Midsummer’s Music Festival is their performances in private homes. This summer Midsummer’s features five home concerts, one hosted by a Green Bay resident and the other four by Door County residents.

One Wednesday, June 30 one of the home concerts will be performed at “ViaLena” in Jacksonport, a unique home owned by Bob and Beth Hon. The Hon’s moved to Door County from the big city of San Diego, CA, attracted by the natural beauty and cultural diversity they had been enjoying on their vacations here for many years. Beth Chafey-Hon had been working on a house design for many years prior before they found the perfect building site, the historic Appel farm on County Rd A, complete with a charming 100+ year old farm house and huge, majestic old barn. They built their home up the hill behind the farm, five years ago. With the help and expert skills of Borkovetz Builders, using Beth’s design, they were able to put their creativity into realization. The living room boasts of a hand carved fireplace hearth, hand painted tiles in the kitchen, specially designed wrought iron railing, a tower and an elevator make the Hon home a special addition to Door County.  Beth and Bob both play music and a year ago, Bob put his “dream” piano, a Steinway ‘L’ model into their library/living room which be the piano used by pianist, Bill Billingham, during the concert on June 30.

This powerful program includes music by Cui, Fibich, and Franck performed by Midsummer’s Music Festival’s world-class ensemble. Tickets are $50 per person and advance reservations are required. To learn more call 920-854-7088 or visit http://www.midsummerSmusic.com.
