Have you ever heard a musical instrument that was played during the Renaissance?  Something Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci or Shakespeare would have listened to? Well, you will have the unique opportunity to hear twelve of these instruments during “A Renaissance Christmas” this December. And what are these instruments? You’ll hear the dulcian, the shawm, and the treble viol, along with the lute, theorbo, bass viol, vielle, soprano, alto, and tenor recorders, crumhorn and rackett. A cornucopia of instrumental delights!

For those of you who are not familiar with “A Renaissance Christmas” it is sponsored by Midsummer’s Music Festival and performed by the Chicago Early Music Consort. Now a Door County holiday tradition, this year marks the sixth annual presentation of the event.

The first concert is just one month away at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor on Friday, December 11 at 5:00 PM. This includes a reception, dinner catered by Alexander’s, and the concert. Reservations are coming in steadily so don’t delay in making your reservation (advance reservations are required). This event sold out last year!

The second concert is at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay on Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 PM. Not only will you see and hear a great concert but you will enjoy holiday treats at the post-concert reception where you can also meet the musicians.

The finale to the series is on Sunday afternoon, December 13 at 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship north of Ephraim. This event also features a post-concert reception with holiday treats and a chance to meet the musicians.

No matter which concert you attend, this is a unique and wonderful way to celebrate the holidays. Come and enjoy the “rackett!”
